We show how data processing relates to Europe’s sustainable growth and digital job creation. Before internet access little data was shared and reporting it was paper-based and slow. The panel looks at trust, identity tech and real-time sharing of data.
This panel deals with data processing innovation as it relates to Europe’s sustainable growth and digital jobs. Before the internet little data was shared. Reporting statistics was paper-based and slow. The internet’s growth expands broadband access to information in real time. Today’s business model relies on voluntary sharing of data, yet the world of internet and big data is a lot more centralized than it ever was. A few aggregators act as global online gateway to products, services and content; they capture most of the digital value chain. With the GDPR we all realize that data privacy, data ownership and data trust has social value and that digital governance matters to individuals as well as to society as a whole. Social innovation requires maximizing socio-economic benefits of ‘being connected’, whilst minimizing the risk of ‘being controlled 24/7’. EU legislation (DSA, DMA, and data sovereignty) is designed to open up the centralized control power of the web. How to share our data and ensure collective intelligence? What safety safeguards are needed against identity theft, cybercrime, data breeches, manipulation and malware,… ?
