Wrap-up Event: Canberra MetaDefender Platform Bootcamp

The Canberra MetaDefender Platform Bootcamp, held between March 5-7, 2025, marked a major milestone in OPSWAT Academy’s advancement in hands-on training with the introduction of the Cloud-Based CIP Lab. This lab enabled participants to engage in live cyber threat simulations within critical infrastructure environments. By working through practical scenarios, attendees gained a deeper understanding of cyber defense strategies and immediately applied their skills in real-time situations.

A Closer Look at the Cloud-Based CIP Lab

The Cloud-Based CIP Lab was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world execution. Participants explored and deployed OPSWAT technologies in a cloud environment, testing them against various cyber threats while configuring secure network settings in a controlled, hands-on environment.

“This training format allows participants to make real-time security decisions and immediately see the impact on securing critical systems. It reinforces the ‘learning by doing’ approach, helping them develop cybersecurity skills they can apply in their roles right away.” Irfan Shakeel, VP of Training and Certification Services, OPSWAT .

Immersive Learning and Practical Application

Beyond the cloud lab experience, the bootcamp provided in-depth knowledge of OPSWAT’s advanced threat prevention technologies and a structured approach to securing critical infrastructure. Participants actively engaged in deploying and testing cybersecurity solutions, applying defensive strategies, and strengthening their understanding of real-world cyber threats in a simulated cloud-based environment.

“The cloud-based lab environment has significantly enhanced my experience by simplifying processes and eliminating the need for high-end hardware. Moreover, it has been invaluable in providing practical, hands-on experience.” – James Peterson, Senior Business Development Manager, Sektor Australia.

“The virtual lab was easy to set up. We didn’t have to go through the whole process of building the machine, so it was good to have everything, including the required course materials, readily available and easy to access. It was both good and helpful.” – Tim Hile, From Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Strengthening Skills and Building Connections

The bootcamp went beyond technical skill-building, fostering collaboration and meaningful discussions among cybersecurity professionals. Attendees had the opportunity to exchange strategies, share best practices, and gain valuable insights from peers and industry experts.

The introduction of the Cloud-Based CIP Lab at the Canberra Bootcamp represents an important step in enhancing cybersecurity training with real-world application. As OPSWAT Academy continues its MetaDefender Platform Bootcamp series, this approach will play a key role in helping cybersecurity professionals strengthen their defense capabilities and protect critical infrastructure systems more effectively.

With more bootcamps ahead, OPSWAT Academy remains committed to delivering hands-on cybersecurity education that meets the evolving challenges of today’s digital landscape.
